"A wild ride through a nightmare landscape.
Eaten by Wolves is a terrific read, a neo noir mythic american road trip worth taking."
"Eaten By Wolves captured my attention from the opening scene and didn’t let go. Fascinating and inventive, original and surprising, this novel tells the story of Van Ryan, a man on a physical and psychological journey that resonates and will keep you thinking long after you’ve finished reading. Richard DiPirro’s writing is tight and engaging, and the tone he sets is pleasantly unsettling. He does an excellent job, in Wolves, of creating what I call “exciting questions”, the kinds of questions about a story and its characters that make me want to keep reading and to which I eagerly anticipate answers. Many themes are explored here too, conventional and familiar ones, but they are approached in novel and unexpected ways. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Eaten By Wolves, and I’m looking forward to DiPirro’s next book."
"Van Ryan's physical quest for an unknown entity is as rich, beautiful, and dark as his inward quest for salvation and redemption. Who has Van Ryan saved and who has he betrayed? And what if those two things are hopelessly entangled? If we all carried a little of the immense burden of the soldier survivor, maybe we would be less eager for our next war."
" ... the character development was excellent, the pace of the action well timed to hold the reader's interest, and the unusual subject matter certainly one of interest to all."
" ... once I started reading it, I didn't want to stop until I reached the end ... The book grabbed me from the first chapter and I soon found myself on a wild nightmarish ride along with the main character, Van Ryan ... I would recommend it to anyone looking for a wildly entertaining book that will stick with you for a long, long time. It is well written and intriguing and I would definitely read more books by this author."
"What I noticed first was DiPirro’s brilliant depth of language. He never takes a shortcut, always choosing to give perfect and insightful detail, rather than just plowing through the story. His descriptions of places and people are impeccable. His style reminds me of classic literature that includes beautiful elements of writing that are rare in contemporary novels. Some of his chapters are so perfectly drawn that they could serve as excellent short stories on their own. But this novel is not about beautiful descriptions. It’s about various forms of madness and the demons in one man’s mind. What is the difference between reality and psychosis? This novel takes you on a journey that is visceral and horrifying, with characters that are both real and nightmarish. It explores the origins of a broken psyche and the terrible choices that only made the break deeper. This novel has depth that I don’t find in many novels these days. DiPirro shows us how it’s done, and I encourage people who want more than a thriller plot or a simple alien story to read Eaten by Wolves. I did not want to put it down, and I look forward eagerly to his next novel."
